The quarrying Industry is an essential provider of materials for the infrastructure of our society in New Zealand. In 1969, the companies involved in extracting and supplying gravel and allied materials formed the Aggregate and Quarry Association of New Zealand - the AQA.
The AQA was formed in response to the need for an industry group that could represent aggregate suppliers on a range of issues, as well as liaise with specifiers and end users of the materials.
Membership stands at over 80 companies, which between them produce 85% of the aggregates and allied raw materials used in New Zealand and includes the suppliers of lime.
The AQA's Technical Committee is well respected throughout the contracting industry, providing an industry response on a wide variety of technical issues.
The Planning Committee is involved in preparing Guidance Notes to assist local and regional authorities in planning aspects of quarry operations
Training, education, the rehabilitation of quarries and associated environmental issues are also key concerns of the AQA.
The AQA is an incorporated society, with councillors elected from member companies around New Zealand. The AQA's Executive Director works from its office in Wellington.
