Genesis Energy, a state-owned enterprise, has a diverse generation portfolio & is New Zealand's largest energy retailer. It operates 1,640MW of generation including New Zealand's largest thermal power station at Huntly, hydro stations at Tongariro & Waikaremoana, a wind farm in the Wairarapa & co-generation facilities at industrial sites. It is also building a 385MW gas turbine generator at Huntly. It owns 31 percent of the Kupe oil & gas field & 40 percent of the Cardiff gas prospect. As a retailer, it has approximately 685,000 electricity & gas customers.
